Hard water and other problems
Ice machines and hot water devices such as coffee machines, steamers and dishwashers are the most important types of equipment in the catering industry. When water changes its state, for example from liquid state (due to heat) to a gas state or from liquid state (due to freezing) to a solid state, certain minerals are retained. These minerals then form scale, which coats every surface it comes into contact with. The hardness of water depends on the amount of minerals in the water. Water treatment by water companies does not change the hardness of the water.
Hard water is the cause of unsightly stains on dishware, and remembers; just 1 mm of scale can reduce the efficiency of cooling and heating equipment by 10%. This leads to higher energy consumption! Scaling can also greatly reduce the lifetime of equipments and cause unexpected and costly downtime.
