CULLIGAN MEDIA FILTRATION

Culligan’s Media filtration systems

Culligan uses pressure tank filtration, whereby water flows into the filters and passes down through the filter bed to remove impurities. The filter media is selected based on the contaminants present in the water.

Culligan's pressure filtration technology allows for much higher filtration speeds (filtration velocity m/s) than older, more traditional filtration methods such as gravity filtration.

Culligan uses patented Multi-Media filtration technology to remove turbidity/suspended solids. Multi-media uses different sized filter media instead of a single layer of sand.

Culligan media:
Solutions for all types of water problem

Turbidity

Turbidity is a measure of water clarity. Turbid water may appear cloudy or opaque and may also affect the colour of the water.

The Culligan solution: Filtr-Cleer media (UF)
Using multi-layered media based on anthracite and silica sand, Culligan can remove high levels of turbidity, suspended solids and even low concentrations of heavy metals.

Bad taste, smell and colour

A common characteristic of water from public systems is chlorine taste and odour, which is often quite noticeable. This is caused by the chlorine used to disinfect the water, which destroys disease-producing bacteria and other harmful organisms that may be present in the water. Another common complaint is the "rotten egg" smell caused by water containing hydrogen sulphide gas (H2S).

The Culligan solution: Cullar media (UR)

Granulated activated carbon (GAC) is used to remove chlorine, colour and unpleasant tastes and odours, creating crystal clear and odourless water.

The use of special manufacturing techniques results in a highly porous carbon with a surface area of 300-2000 square metres per gram. These huge surface areas in activated carbon adsorb odours or colouring agents from the water.

Acidic water

Acid rainfall caused by acid rain from atmospheric carbon dioxide and other airborne pollutants, as well as run-off from mining spoils and decomposition of plant material, are common causes of acidic water. Acidic water can quickly cause corrosion of pipelines and fittings.

The Culligan solution: Cullneu media (UU)

Granular calcium-carbonate is used to increase the pH of the water to neutral levels.

Arzenic

Arsenic contamination of groundwater is often due to naturally occurring high concentrations of arsenic in deeper groundwater. A 2007 study found that more than 137 million people in more than 70 countries, including the USA and Italy, are likely to be affected by arsenic contamination in drinking water. Chronic arsenic poisoning results from drinking contaminated well water over long periods of time. The World Health Organization recommends an arsenic limit of 0.01 mg/l in drinking water.

The Culligan solutions: Cullax media (UFX)

This specific media reduces arsenic levels through the adsorption of arsenic and vanadium.

Iron and Manganese

While iron and manganese are not considered a health concern in drinking water, they do cause a number of secondary problems, including: aesthetic problems that result in orange or brown stains on pipes and fittings, a bitter metallic taste, and potentially a food source for iron-consuming bacteria.

The Culligan solutions: Cullsorb M media (UFP)

Culligan uses a selective catalytic multi-layer media to remove iron and manganese. The use of an oxidizing agent is required prior to the filter.

Ammonia

It is often found in surface waters due to run-off of fertilizers and other nutrients with high nitrogen content.

The Culligan solutions: Biological filters

It is specifically designed for the removal of ammonia by accelerated nitrification using aerobic bacterial biomass supported by a quartz-based support layer. Culligan biofilters can also oxidize and remove low concentrations of iron and manganese.

Culligan media filters

HE filter CTM filter

HiFlo6 filter

Suitable for light commercial applications, e.g. water pre-treatment for water softeners and boilers, up to a flow rate of 8.1 m³/h.

Featuring patented technology and the Culligan exclusive 1.5" HE valve, the HE filter also increases the performance and lifetime of appliances by reducing impurities in the water.

The HE Smart control unit can be used to configure one or more tank systems to match flow demand.

Ideal for flow rates between 3 and 11 m³/h, the CTM filter utilizes a 2" valve mounted on top of a fiberglass reinforced tank.

The CTM filter helps meet your changing water quality needs at different consumption levels, reducing contaminants in the water that affect the performance and lifetime of the appliances that use the water.

With Culligan's exclusive Smart controller, you can effectively manage water quality.

The HiFlo6 filter is ideal for industrial and municipal water users, with capacities ranging from 36 to 170 m³/h.

Long service life is ensured by the use of a high grade carbon steel tank with internal epoxy painted coating.

The modular systems, available in twin and quad configurations, can be configured to your needs and even expanded with additional tanks as your water usage increases.

HiFlo9 filter OFSY filter

GAC filter

HiFlo9 water filters are ideal for industrial and municipal water users.

HiFlo9 units are suitable for the reduction of suspended solids, turbidity, iron, manganese, chlorine, arsenic and other contaminants up to flow rates of 3 - 105 m³/h with a variety of special filter media compositions.

The filters are of modular design and can be connected in parallel (twin and quad formation) or in series to allow systems to be scaled up to handle higher flow rates.

The Culligan OFSY (Omni-Filtration-System) models are fully automated operations designed specifically for filtering surface water containing suspended solids and high turbidity levels.

The two-stage filtration system in series (exclusive Culligan solution) is ideal for removing high turbidity and suspended solids content (up to 100 ppm).

Granular activated carbon media filters designed for the adsorption of organic halogen compounds, pesticides, heavy metals and other substances harmful to health.
